Our Last Wild Places?
Many years ago, growing up and living in Kenya, I would spend time with friends and family in some fantastic places - the Maasai Mara, the Serengetti, Zanzibar, Samburu, Kilimanjaro and my favourite, Lake Turkana.
My biggest fear and regret growing up was that there was no place left to explore. It had all been explored and discovered.
With all the changes taking place in the world, and as I look back on all the travels now that I have a bright new light being in my life, I wonder, what will she experience? What will take her breath away?
Rather than seeking the unexplored, will she even have a chance to experience some of the wonders I took for granted?
Will the Mara even be there for her? Will there be snows on Kilimanjaro for her to marvel at?
Or will she only learn about these things from books and movies?
Have we lost all our wild places?
I'd like to start a list of places - wild places - we can visit in the next 7 years (after that I will only be good for the car keys!).
Would you be willing to share with me your best wild place? My list (above) is very East Africa centric - I'd like to learn more about other places.
Assuming we get enough entries, I'll be happy to compile a list and share it with everyone.

I hiked there in Jan. 1979 and have never forgotten it.
If I remember correctly, Machapuchare means fishtail, since the mountain, from a certain point on the trek, looks like a fish tail in the air.
